April 28 — Lunch-and-Learn: Be Your Own Boss. This class will focus on entrepreneurship, with a panel of special guests who have started their own businesses. Speakers will discuss their early days when first establishing their businesses, and what motivated them to branch out on their own. After the presentation, a Q&A session will cover how to get bonded and insured, how to get new customers, billing, payroll, end of year taxes, employee retention, how to avoid nonpayment from customers, and the benefits of marketing through social media, word of mouth, and advertising. Panelists include: Hope Burkhart (Red Fern Woodwork and Renovation), Cameron Crawford (Home Sweet Farm Market & Biergarten), Tim Florer (Heroic Villains), Orangetta Johnson (entrepreneur), and Austin Taylor (Dynamic Drains Plumbing & Drain Experts). The event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 28 from noon to 1 p.m. at St. John's UCC, Family Life Center, 516 N Colorado. There is no cost to attend, but reservations are required.
